Every newsletter you send makes me cry (in a good way). I'm so happy you've found a way to harness your luck and pour it back over others. And I'm glad my eight-year-old had any part in making your way brighter (that was a solar pun). So looking forward to all you have to come!

I love this. Especially: "Getting to write for kids as a sustainable career wasn’t actually the best part of winning the newbery. It’s an incredible part, and I’m so grateful for it, but the best part is that it put me in a position to give back."

I love that you’re able to give back! Such a lovely reflection. And what a simultaneously wonderful and gut-wrenching journey the past 4 years has been. So proud of you for navigating it with the amazing poise you’ve had since I’ve known you!

Yes, @LaurenGrange, "Every newsletter you send makes me cry (in a good way)." Tae, you do have a way of connecting directly with whatever emotion I'm feeling--and often haven't figured out yet. Thanks for putting into words what I was also feeling about lockdown. Already salivating for the new book.

Truly one of the best Zoom calls I've ever been on. What a wild ride - and to think that it was 4 years ago! Thank you for sharing the behind-the-scenes peek with all of us, from the movie talks (which would be amazing) to the doubt (something many understand). May our paths continue to cross in the PNW!

I love this so, so much! This filled my heart with so much joy. It also reminded me what a huge undertaking and responsibility the Newbery is and I am so honored to have played even a small part in your journey. I can’t wait to hear more about your new book! I need guidance on living in a world on fire and kids books always have the best advice.

Thank you for the part you played — it certainly was not small, haha. And thank you for what you do for kids books in general.

So glad you’re here, Tae! And thank you for your honesty. I’ve been thinking a lot about how to write in a world on fire. I guess we’re all finding our way.

I spent a whole book asking myself that question, and I’m still grappling with it now.. And finding the balance when writing for kids between being honest about what’s happening and still letting them be *kids*, protected at least a little from the horrors—it’s tough work. Good work, but wow, tough. ❤️❤️

I love this so much, especially about the being able to give back. I'm not quite there YET in terms of a sustainable career, but I think that's where I'm headed, and it's a big reason I'm glad to have moved back home. Ready to help my community rise 🥰. Thanks for sharing.
